Summary

Pregnancy, has historically been defined, as a time of emotional wellbeing, providing “protection”, against psychiatric disorder. However, the rates of depression is rising during pregnancy and risk factors for antenatal depression have been extensively investigated. Nevertheless, it is noteworthy, that the evidence regarding the association between personality traits (e.g. trait anxiety) and antenatal depression, when compared to the evidence concerning marital support, social support and antenatal depression, is contradictive. This study set out to compare the prevalence, content and associated factors of depression, during pregnancy in Greek women.
