| Summary | Carbenoxolone, in the form of Biogastrone or Pyrogastrone, was given to 6 healthy volunteers. Plasma cortisol concentrations were measured, as 11-hydroxy-corticosteroids (1) and by competitive protein binding (CPB), 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 hours after drug administration. There was no increase in the plasma concentration of either 11-OHCs or cortisol after either Biogastrone or Pyrogastrone administration. Carbenoxolone sodium also failed to stimulate corticosteroid production by rat adrenal cells in vitro. | |
