Summary The development of the portable scintillation probe for the evaluation of the left ventricular (LV) function during routine activities is valuable in the investigation of silent ischaemia. However, it has been shown that assessment of ambulatory ischaemia is of additional clinical value in patients with chronic coronary artery disease (CAD), beyond that provided by exercise-induced ischaemia. Exercise Thallium-201 (Tl-201) scintigraphy and radionuclide angiography play a prominent role in the management of patients with asymptomatic or mildly sympomatic CAD. Screening strategies are reasonable to apply only to population with a high likelihood of disease.
