Summary | In order to investigate the frequency of fibronectin presence in atherosclerotic diabetic vessels, we examined in the post mortem material the development of fibronectin in the capillaries of diabetic patients with atherosclerosis. We established two groups of patients, group A with 20 patients without diabetes, who died of myocardial infarction and group B with 20 diabetic patients, well controlled with insulin, who also died of myocardial infarction. For the detection of fibronectin, the PAP immunohistochemical method was employed, with some slight modifications. The diabetic group presented generalized atherosclerosis, which showed, in many places, significant deposit of fibronectin. This is probably due to the rapid development of atherosclerosis in diabetus mellitus. | |
