Summary | In vitro testing is of primary importance for the preliminary screening of the effects of drugs, cosmetics, food additives and many other kinds of substances. This review presents briefly the most common in vitro methods for the study of cell proliferation and cell death as tools for the evaluation of natural products and synthetic compounds. Advantages and disadvantages of these methods, as well as some hints for the set-up of such in vitro assay systems are also here presented. | |
