Summary Mankind’s approaches to understand its world by scientific research originated in late Renaissance and initiated the Scientific Revolution. Scientific understanding of nature is suggestive of utilizing novel knowledge to improve mankind’s life: Applied Research. Novel scientific knowledge-problems by its intrinsic Janus-headed nature in utilizing scientific results by mankind. The Janus-headed nature and/or increasing expenses in the acquisition of novel scientific knowledge may demand for certain controls by scientific community and/or by human society. In mankind’s Research for Survival basic research going purely for the scientific truth remains the condition sine qua non.
