Summary | Many of the health systems of developed countries are seeking solutions, which will combine high quality health services, as well as procedures, which will be both effective and efficient in terms of cost. One of the most critical policy issues in the last year has been the rising cost of health care of specific demographic characteristics (aging of population). In Greece, there has been very little effort to detect and evaluate the financial consequences of different health interventions, so as to set the basic priorities in the health sector and mark out the general health policy in a rational way. Contributing towards this direction is what the present study endeavors to do. Its objective consists the financial evaluation of cataract operation on an ambulatory basis in a private center, as it is not implemented in public hospitals or centers. Ambulatory surgery of cataract constitutes an alternative kind of surgery, which provides safety of procedures, financial profits, full cooperation of patients with health professionals and finally favors the creation of a health system, which satisfies the patients. | |
