Summary | Fundamental aim of the current study is to research the opinion of the employees on the existence of potential of restraint on the consumption of different categories of materials in Greek Public Hospitals. The authors focus on the employees’ opinion in hospitals with the use of a questionnaire that was filled in by 727 employees in 3 Hospitals of the Greek National Health System. The findings of the study indicate that the employees believe that there are extensive potential of restraint on the consumption of grocery, fuels and clothing. On the other hand, the employees believe that there is little or no potential of restraint on the consumption of medicine (common and expensive) and nursing (expendable, fixed and sanitary) materials. Another important finding is that the employees’ opinion and knowledge varies between different professional groups. While administrative employees answered that there is extensive potential for restraint on almost all materials, doctors and nurses were hesitant to answer that such a potential exists. | |
