Summary Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase is the responsible enzyme for the production of endothelial NO. Genetic polymorphisms in eNOS gene affect the levels and enzymatic activity of eNOS protein resulting in reduction of NO levels. The objective of this study is to report on the frequencies of two common eNOS gene polymorphisms, -786T>C and 894G>T, in a representative sample of Greek population. A total of 225 non-related subjects of Greek origin participated in our study. Both eNOS polymorphisms were genotyped using the PCR-RFLP method. In the 225 volunteers genotyped for eNOS -786T>C and 894G>T polymorphisms, the allele frequencies for -786C and 894T were 46% and 32% respectively. The prevalence of the studied eNOS gene polymorphisms is in accordance with the reported frequencies in other Caucasian populations.
