| Summary | Use of local anaesthetics is very common in general practice and emergency medicine. Main complications of those agents comprise neurological and cardiac toxicity, allergic reactions or localised infections. Side effects can be prevented by respecting the maximal dose of any specific agent, correctly preparing the solution to inject and use of aseptic techniques and adapted material. The physician should also carefully monitor the patient, checking blood pressure and cardiac rate and maintaining verbal contact in order to rapidly recognize any eventual complication. | ||
