Summary Neural transplantation strategy is based on the idea that dopaminergic neurons or neuroblasts can be used to replace the nigral dopaminergic neurons that are degenerated in patients with PD. In the present study both enhanced green fluorescent protein (GFP)-modified and BMBB-GFP- modified neural stem cells (NCS) were used. Aim of our study was to demonstrate that these cells can survive, differentiate and functionally integrate into host tissue in the 6-hydroxydopamine mouse model of Parkinson’s disease. Animals received unilateral stereotaxic injections of 6-OHDA into the nigrostriatal tract. After lesioning, mice received unilateral intrastriatal injections of neurosphere cell suspensions. We demonstrate that GFP positive NCS developed neuronal phenotype of TH poitive and striatal medium spiny neurons. BM88-modified cells differentiated mainly into striatal medium spiny neurons.
