Περίληψη – Summary

Οι επιστημονικές ανακαλύψεις στον τομέα της Ιατρικής, της Γενετικής και της Βιολογίας έχουν στηριχθεί κυρίως στο πείραμα τόσο στα ζώα όσο και στον άνθρωπο. Τα τελευταία χρόνια η εξέλιξη στον τομέα της ιατρικής τεχνολογίας έδωσε υποσχέσεις για τη λύση ζητημάτων που σχετίζονται με τη δημόσια υγεία, μέσω της έρευνας στα ανθρώπινα εμβρυϊκά αρχέγονα κύτταρα. Η εν λόγω έρευνα, όμως, επέφερε στην επιστημονική κοινότητα σημαντικά ηθικά, νομικά και δεοντολογικά ζητήματα πρωτόγνωρα και πολύ ενδιαφέροντα. Τα πιο σημαντικά από αυτά στηρίζονται κυρίως στο ζήτημα της ηθικής υπόστασης του εμβρύου, τη δημιουργία εμβρύων αποκλειστικά και μόνο για ερευνητικούς σκοπούς και στη δημιουργία εμβρύων με τη μέθοδο της κλωνοποίησης. Σε πολλές Ευρωπαϊκές Χώρες η νομοθεσία εκφράζει τις αποκλίνουσες απόψεις των Κρατών. Στη Χώρα μας στον πρόσφατο νόμο που ρυθμίζει τα θέματα της Ιατρικώς Υποβοηθούμενης Αναπαραγωγής, τα πλεονάζοντα κρυοσυντηρημένα έμβρυα, μπορούν να διατεθούν, χωρίς οικονομικό αντάλλαγμα, για ερευνητικούς σκοπούς.

The scientific discoveries in the medical, genetic and biology fields have been mainly based on animals and humans. In recent years the developments in the medical technology field have given promises for the solution of issues related to public health through the research carried out in embryonic stem cells. The said research, though, has put forward moral, legal and ethical questions, which are new and very interesting and at the same time challenging for the scientific community. The most important ones are mainly based on the issue of the ethical existence of the embryo, the creation of embryos exclusively for research purposes and with the use of the cloning method. The legislation in many European countries expresses the divergent views of these states. In our country, the recent law regulating the issues of the Assisted Human Reproduction stipulates that the surplus frozen embryos can be used, without a financial gain, for research purposes.
