A condition quite synonymous with puberty, the common acne, disease of the pilosebaceous glands, is clinically characterized by a polymorphous exanthema consisting of comedones, pustules, papules, nodules, cysts and scars situated in areas rich in sebaceous gland, such as the face, the shoulders and the back. The etiology of the disease is multi-factorial, its course is long and its relapses are frequent. However, it is currently treated with success in most of the cases. We are hereby trying to classify acne into different types, to stratify its variable forms according to the quantity and the quality of the skin lesions. Despite the similarity among the different forms of acne, this has been considered as a necessity, because even the incomplete recognition of the clinical forms of acne is a prerequisite to treatment. We are also trying to give answers to apparently simple questions occupying the suffers and relating to the scientific dimension of the disease as well as to the whole spectrum of the therapeutic efficacy and of the value of the medicines used in the treatment of acne.
