Περίληψη – Summary
Metabolic syndrome (MetSyn) is a common multidimensional pathological condition defined by several genetic and environmental factors in all cases of biochemical, clinical and metabolic levels. These interconnected factors together increase the risk of cardiovascular disease (CDV) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), but until now little is known for genetic contribution. The fact that metabolic syndrome is involved in many diseases shows that there is an interaction between clinical and biological phenotype hallmarks, namely atherogenic dyslipidemia, blood pressure and insulin resistance. Olive oil and its constituents have been revealed to be beneficial as therapeutic strategies against metabolic syndrome. In this review, we will focus on their effects on metabolic syndrome.
