| Summary | Epstein-Barr Virus is the causative agent of infectious mononucleosis and it has been associated with Burkitt’s lymphoma, nasopharyngeal carcinoma and other nonspecific manifestations. The contagiousness of this virus and the impact of the infection among individuals is of particular concern and all, up to date, reports are refutatory. We studied the presence of antibodies to EBV related antigens in family members of patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma. This study indicated that interpersonal transmission of virus does not occur readily within household contacts and that other factors may be implicated in the transmission of viral infection. | |
