| Summary | Onco-suppressor genes are a family of genes that inhibit the cancer phenotypes of cells. Only a few have been described due to the lack of appropriate assays. They antagonize the action of oncogenes and in some cases their product interacts with an oncoprotein. Transfer and expression of an onco-suppressor gene into the appropriate tumor cell in vitro can revert the tumor into a normal phenotype thus indicating the potential usefulness of onco-suppressor genes in cancer therapy. | |
