Summary Modern methods of cancer treatment cannot thoroughly respond to the complex needs and problems of patients who come both from treatment operations and cancer aggressiveness. Studies indicate that individuals with cancer make frequent use of complementary treatment because they believe that their quality of life is improved. Thus, the alleviation from the symptoms of the illness and the complications of the treatment, the amelioration of the patient’s functional condition and the reduction of their psychological disorders all constitute criteria of improvement of the cancer patients’ life quality. Some of the complementary therapies can be used by nurses (massage techniques, relaxation techniques, distraction of attention, counseling, reflexology, therapeutic touch, Reiki) after appropriate theoretical and clinical training.
