| Summary | Auditory evoked brainstem potentials are currently an important method of objective assessment of the threshold of hearing. However children cannot be still during the examination; so it is necessary to resort to sedatives or hypnotics to be able to obtain recordings. Thirty-five patients were examined for 25, 35, 45 and 55 min after 0.20 mg/Kg diazepam administration. The alterations were not significant. Conclusively; diazepam administration would be suitable when (1) children have to be examined and (2) intraoperative evoked potential monitoring is required. | |
