Summary | Acne is a very common skin disorder affecting an important number of people, mainly teenagers. The following are believed to be the factors in its production: the obstruction of the sebaceous gland due to the impairment of the keratinisation, the seborrhea, the increase in the level of the circulating androgens, the presence of microbes. Different therapeutic treatments have been suggested and are being applied, although no specific treatment has ever been established. The topical pharmaceutical treatment includes desquamative substances, retinoic acid, benzoyl peroxide, antimicrobic drugs, corticosteroids, and antiseptics. The systemically administered treatments include antibiotics, estrogens, oral contraceptives, glucocorticosteroids, gonadotropin-reteasing hormone agonists, antiandrogens, isotretinoin. The symptomatic treatment of acne using mechanical, chemical and natural methods include extraction of comedones, use of galvanic currents, use of high frequency currents, massage, mask application, a hydrating product, peeling application, UV radiation. | |
