Summary | Evolution of genetics expresses the basic speculations which deal with the handing of biotechnological innovations. What can guarantee us the use and not the abuse of genetic material? Limits, control, legal frameworks, moral demands, human rights and dignity seem to disagree with the prospect of medical applications. The range of research freedom is vast because every knowledge and every part of the human life can be a line, and that is how science keeps on developing. In 1970 a scientific committee of “Bioethics” was founded to help control and draft the ethical dilemmas that come up due to biomedical progress. A number of medically supported human reproduction methods exist like: in vivo artificial insemination, in vitro fertilization, gamete intrafallopian transfer, surrogate motherhood and more modern ones such as prenatal diagnosis, pro-implant diagnosis, biopsies of the fertilized eggs and genetic analysis. These generate a number of ethical issues. Furthermore the aspect of post-modern in vitro fertilization is presented through a true scenario, which highlights the lack of a universal legal framework, and the idea of eugenics which promotes the creation of a perfect kind is considered. The medically supported human reproduction can be viewed from many different aspects. Progress is going on very quickly as new data about human genome arises every day. It is essential that human dignity and rights remain a priority, without any exception. | |
