Summary With this article, a formula calculation of the distinctive ability of a test is proposed, with the cal­culation of the area under the ROC curve, when a sin­gle point of sensitivity (Se) and specifity (Sp). The area under the ROC curve demonstrates the probability of the test to correctly classify a patient and a non patient of a specific illness and is positively correlated with the diagnostic quality of the test. The assumption is made that the shape of the ROC curve is concave. The area is calculated using the formula     

A=[Se2+Sp2-Se-Sp+Se.Sp.((Se+Sp).(Se+Sp-2)+6)] /(6Se.Sp)

which renders a value larger than the trapezoid rule and smaller than the minimax approximation.
