Summary Cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) is a protein involved in the reverse cholesterol transport pathway and its increased function has been linked to accelerated atherosclerosis. Men have an earlier onset and higher incidence of coronary heart disease than women as androgens regulate atherogenesis processes. The aim of the study was to estimate the serum CETP levels of Wistar rats under saturated fat diet and under nandrolone decanoate administration. 30 male Wistar rats were randomized into three groups (n=10 each). Group A: control group, group B fed a high saturated lipids diet and group C treated with 50 μg/Kg/daily nandrolone decanoate (Deca Durabolin®-Organon). It is observed an increase in CETP activity in both experimental groups, more pronounced under high fat consumption, a rise in TG levels and decrease of HDL and serum albumin. High exogenous androgen administration and saturated fat consumption enhance the atherogenic risk factors.
