Summary The aim of this work is to present basic principles of cognitive development and communicative methods of teaching, with special emphasis on practical issues of problem based learning (PBL) and problem based teaching (PBT). The structuralistic theories of cognitive development (psychological constructivism, social constructivism and radical constructivism) are presented briefly, and their impact on communicative methodology of teaching is discussed. Models of cognitive construction are also presented, as well as the theoretical basis of communicative methods in teaching and learning. Common problems of “alternative concepts” or “false conception” in Pharmacology are mentioned, and practical advice on memory and its organization is also given.
