| Summary | Obesity is a well established risk factor for development of insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Apart from its key role as an endocrine organ, the adipose tissue actively participates in the process of inflammation, mainly as an important source of circulating pro-inflammatory cytokines. We sought to determine whether certain cytokine secretory patterns are affected following a standard oral glucose load, in subjects at a normal glucose tolerant state in regards to the presence of obesity (BMI>35). Our study indicates that cytokine patterns are unaffected post-glucose load in obese subjects with normal glucose tolerance. | ||
