Περίληψη – Summary
Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate a) the level of communication skills and emotional intelli-gence of Greek midwives, and b) the possibility of an association between the emotional intelligence and the level of communication of these healthcare profes-sionals. Methods: The study was conducted between September and December 2019 in two maternity hos-pitals in Attica, Greece. The sample consisted of 138 midwives. A Questionnaire on communication and The Wong and Law Emotional Intelligence Scale were used. Results: The midwives revealed a) the large extent to which they develop sufficient communication with women in care (M = 4.21), b) a great understand-ing of the feelings experienced by their fellow human beings (M = 4.25), c) a high degree of emotional effi-ciency and performance (M = 4.18), and d) a moder-ate to high ability to regulate their emotions (M = 3.76). The increased level of emotional intelligence of the midwives in the present study seems to be directly related to their increased communication skills. Con-clusion: Greek midwives report having great skills when it comes to communicating with women in their care, as well as a high level of emotional intelligence
