Epitheorese Klinikes Farmakologias kai Farmakokinetikes is a bilingual, open-access, peer-reviewed journal published annually by PHARMAKON-Press. The journal was established in Athens, Greece, in 1983 by Prof. Stavros T. Plessas, MD, and Dr. Charalampos T. Plessas, and since then it has served the international pharmacological community. Its aim is to promote optimal drug therapy by publishing articles that address important aspects and challenges in the broader fields of Clinical and Applied Pharmacology, Medicine, and Therapeutics. The journal considers and publishes manuscripts in a variety of article categories, including case reports, commentaries, correspondence, editorials, evidence syntheses, guidelines, hypotheses, meeting reports, notes, obituaries, opinions, protocols, research reports, reviews, and tutorials.
The journal was founded at a time when major developments in pharmaceutical chemistry, pharmacology, and toxicology had led to the rapid introduction of numerous new drugs into international markets, alongside the growing importance of the scientific disciplines of general and clinical pharmacokinetics. Recognizing that physicians, pharmacists, and other scientists working with drugs often lacked the time to access and evaluate the extensive information concerning the efficacy and use of thousands of pharmaceutical agents, the founders established the first scientific pharmaceutical journal in Greece, initially published in Greek.
The journal aimed to support the scientific community by providing updated knowledge on drugs, introducing contemporary perspectives on specific drugs or groups of drugs, and presenting original research studies. Over the years, Epitheorese Klinikes Farmakologias kai Farmakokinetikes has also published the proceedings of pharmacological congresses and conferences in medicinal chemistry. More than four decades later, the journal continues to publish high-quality peer-reviewed articles and to host the proceedings of international scientific meetings, serving the scientific community both in Greece and internationally. In September 2023, the journal entered a new era by adopting a fully open-access publishing model.
