Περίληψη – Summary

Σκοπός της έρευνας είναι η διερεύνηση της κατάστασης που επικρατεί σε νοσηλευτικά ιδρύματα, σε σχέση με την εντομοκτονία και μυοκτονία. ΜΕΘΟΔΟΛΟΓΙΑ: Αξιολογήθηκαν τα στοιχεία που συγκεντρώθηκαν με τη συμπλήρωση προτυποποιημένου ερωτηματο-λογίου από τρεις εταιρείες υπεύθυνες για την εντομοκτονία και μυοκτονία 16 νοσηλευτικών ιδρυμάτων στην περιφέρεια της Αττικής. Η επεξεργασία των δεδομένων έγινε με το στατιστικό πακέτο SPSS. ΑΠΟΤΕΛΕΣΜΑΤΑ: Για το ήμισυ των ιδρυμάτων οι κτιριακές δομές εκτιμήθηκε, από τις υπεύθυνες για την εντομοκτονία εταιρείες, ότι ευνοούν την ανάπτυξη εντόμων και τρωκτικών. Κατά τη διάρκεια όλου του έτους, παρατηρείται ανάπτυξη εντόμων στους εσωτερικούς χώρους των επτά νοσηλευτικών ιδρυμάτων και τρωκτικών των 10. Ελάχιστη έως καθόλου παρουσία ερπόντων και ιπτάμενων εντόμων αναφέρθηκε: στα μαγειρεία στα 11 και 12 ιδρύματα αντίστοιχα, στις αποθήκες τροφίμων στα 13 και 11 και στις κλινικές στα 14 και 13, αντίστοιχα. Η συχνότητα εμφάνισης των τρωκτικών, χαρακτηρίστηκε από μέτρια έως μεγάλη στα τέσσερα μαγειρεία και στις πέντε αποθήκες τροφίμων. Στα χειρουργεία η εμφάνιση εντόμων και τρωκτικών ήταν μηδενική. Στους εξωτερικούς χώρους, τα υπόγεια, τα φρεάτια και στον περιβάλλοντα χώρο, η ύπαρξη τρωκτικών χαρακτηρίστηκε από ελάχιστη έως καθόλου για τα επτά νοσηλευτικά ιδρύματα. Διαφορετικά είδη εντόμων δηλώθηκαν για τα δύο νοσηλευτικά ιδρύματα (κατσαρίδες Blattela germanica και Periplaneta americana) και τρωκτικών για τα τέσσερα (R. rattus, M. musculus, R. norvegicous). Για εντομοκτονία συχνότερα εφαρμόζονται ο συνδυασμός δολωμάτων και παγίδων (6/16) και για μυοκτονία οι δολωματικοί σταθμοί (6/16). Εφαρμόστηκε αλλαγή εντομοκτόνων περισσότερες από τρεις φορές τον τελευταίο χρόνο στα 10 ιδρύματα και μυοκτόνων στα δύο. Ο κύριος λόγος αλλαγής εντομοκτόνου ήταν η αποφυγή ανάπτυξης ανθεκτικότητας (6/16) και μυοκτόνου, η επιλογή σκευάσματος περισσότερο ελκυστικού για τα τρωκτικά (5/16). Εκπαίδευση σε θέματα εντομοκτονίας και μυοκτονίας είχαν λάβει οι εργαζόμενοι μόνο δύο νοσοκομείων. ΣΥΜΠΕΡΑΣΜΑΤΑ: Η παρουσία εντόμων και τρωκτικών στα νοσηλευτικά ιδρύματα αποτελεί γεγονός και μόνο η συνεχής προσπάθεια καταπολέμησής τους και η συστηματική εφαρμογή εντομοκτονίας και μυοκτονίας συμβάλλει ικανοποιητικά στον έλεγχό τους. Για αποτελεσματικότερο όμως έλεγχο απαραίτητη είναι η εφαρμογή ολοκληρωμένου προγράμματος καταπολέμησης επιβλαβών οργανισμών, το οποίο περιλαμβάνει, μεταξύ άλλων, τη βελτίωση της κτιριακής δομής και την ευαισθητοποίηση και εκπαίδευση του προσωπικού.

Background Pest control is important in hospitals in order to maintain a healthy environment for patients and personnel. This study aims at exploging the current situation in hospitals located in Athens, Greece regarding pest control. Materials and methods. Data collected by using a standardised questionnaire including questions related to pest control in 16 hospitals. Personal interviews were conducted to competent employees of three private companies responsible for pest management of the 16 hospitals. Results. Hospital construction supported pest infestations in half of the hospitals. Insect and rodent infestation had seven and 10 out of the 16 hospitals respectively Low or no infestation of flying and crawling insects was reported to the following indoor locations: food preparation area in 11 and 12 hospitals respectively, food storage area in 13 and 11 hospitals respectively, and in 14 and 13 hospital clinics respectively. Moderate and high rodent infestation was reported in four hospitals food preparation areas and in five food storage areas. No infestations were reported to surgeries. Low or no rodent infestation was reported in outdoor areas, in basements and in manholes of seven hospitals. Different insect species were reported in two hospitals (Blattela germanica και Periplaneta americana) and different rodent species in four hospitals (R. rattus, M. musculus, R. norvegicous). Combination of baits and traps were applied in six out of the 16 hospitals for insect control. For rodent control rat baits were used in six out of the 16 hospitals. Training and knowledge of pest management methods were reported only in two hospitals. More than three different insecticides were used during the last year in 10 hospitals and rodenticides in two hospitals. Conclusion. Different pests are present in the hospital environment and therefore systematic efforts for pest management are essential. Although chemical means of pest control can be effective, additional measures such as improvement of building construction and training of personnel are necessary. Correct implementation of an integrated pest management in hospitals is needed.
