Περίληψη – Summary
Με το άρθρο αυτό θα αναπτυχθούν οι ενότητες που αφορούν τον ιό του HIV και στην επίπτωσή του στη γονιμότητα των οροθετικών ατόμων. Επίσης, θα αναλυθούν η μετάδοση του ιού από την οροθετική μητέρα στο νεογνό (Mother To Child Transmission – MTCT), οι ιδιαιτερότητες του τοκετού, η φαρμακευτική αγωγή της μητέρας και του νεογνού και ο θηλασμός.
HIV stands for human immunodeficiency virus. If left untreated, HIV can lead to the disease AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). As years go by, it is all the more apparent that a great percentage of HIV+ people want to have a baby.  Assisted reproduction techniques may allow HIV+ couples to conceive without infecting their newborns. HIV can be transmitted to infants from the HIV+ mothers during pregnancy (maximum transmission occurs in late pregnancy), childbirth and during the postpartum period and lactation. For this reason, the antiretroviral therapy is the cornerstone in the prevention of HIV transmission from mother to infant. In this paper will be described ways of the transmission of HIV from the HIV+ mother to the infant (Mother to Child Transmission), the peculiarities of childbirth, medication of the mother and the newborn, breastfeeding, midwife’s role and precautions.
