Περίληψη – Summary	Το σύνδρομο άπνοιας στον ύπνο είναι αναπνευστική διαταραχή με κύριο χαρακτηριστικό τη διακοπή της αναπνοής κατά τη διάρκεια του ύπνου. Τα διαστήματα διακοπής του ύπνου, καθώς και ο αριθμός των απνοϊκών επεισοδίων ποικίλλουν ανάλογα με το είδος της άπνοιας και τη βαρύτητα της περίπτωσης. Τα άτομα που πάσχουν από άπνοια έχουν αυξημένη πιθανότητα να αναπτύξουν καρδιακές παθήσεις και να υποφέρουν από πονοκεφάλους, έχουν συνήθως ανήσυχο ύπνο, ταλαιπωρούνται από υπνηλία, καθώς και από προβλήματα στην οδήγηση και στην εργασία. Πειράματα σε απνοϊκούς όσον αφορά την ευαισθησία στις βλάβες στο DNA ή την επιδιορθωτική ικανότητα των κυττάρων τους δεν έχουν γίνει in vivo, ωστόσο έχουν γίνει πειράματα in vitro όπου μελετάται η επίδραση της υποξίας και της ανοξίας σε κυτταρικές σειρές, όπως σε λεμφοκύτταρα και σε νευρικά κύτταρα, πράγμα που σχετίζεται με την άπνοια, γιατί στην κατάσταση της άπνοιας ο οργανισμός και τα κύτταρα δεν οξυγονώνονται επαρκώς. The Obstructive Sleep Apnea is a respiratory disorder characterized by short breathing pauses during sleep. These pauses vary according to the Apnea type and the severity of the case. People suffering from Obstructive Sleep Apnea are in increased danger of developing heart disease, strong headaches, restless sleep and difficulties in driving and working. No study has yet been performed on the lymphocytes DNA damage and repair sensitivity of Apnea suffering people, while experiments on lymphocytes and neurocytes under hypoxia and/ or anoxia already contacted have shown DNA damage. These results could be correlated to data from Apnea Syndrome since lymphocytes from both groups are not oxygenated properly.
