Κατά την γυναικολογική, σεξουαλική και αναπαραγωγική φροντίδα υγείας, η χρήση ορολογίας και εκφράσεων από τις μαίες / μαιευτές που παραπέμπουν στην ετεροκανονικότητα, τη διάκριση και το στιγματισμός, οδηγούν τα ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ άτομα στη μη τακτική και μη σωστή ολοκλήρωση του καθιερωμένου προληπτικού ελέγχου για την αποφυγή του καρκίνου του στήθους και του τραχήλου, καθώς και τη μη έγκαιρη προσέλευση στο νοσοκομείο σε περίπτωση ασθένειας. Επιπροσθέτως, οι ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ ασθενείς δηλώνουν πολλές φορές μη ικανοποιημένοι από τη μαιευτική φροντίδα που δέχονται κατά την περιγεννητική περίοδο και ότι αρκετές φορές αντιμετωπίζουν επαγγελματίες υγείας με ελλιπή η καθόλου εκπαίδευση σε θέματα ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+. Οι μαίες / μαιευτές από την άλλη μεριά δηλώνουν ότι θέλουν και προσπαθούν να εφαρμόσουν φροντίδα με επίκεντρο τον άνθρωπο, αλλά πολλές φορές δεν έχουν τη σωστή εκπαίδευση ή νιώθουν αμήχανα όταν φροντίζουν ΛΟΑΤΚΙ+ άτομα.

In gynecological, sexual and reproductive health care, the use οf terminology and expressions by the midwives that point to heterogeneity, distinction and stigmatization, lead the LGBTQI+ individuals to not undergo the regular screening tests for breast and cervical cancer, as well as prevent them from visiting a hospital early in the event of illness. In addition, LGBTQI+ individuals often state being dissatisfied by the level of midwifery service they received perinatally and that they often have to deal with healthcare professionals with incomplete or no training in LGBTQI+ matters. Midwives on the other hand state that they both have the intentions and that they try implement the proper man-centered care, but they often lack the proper training or feel embarrassed when having to treat LGBTQI+ individuals.
