Περίληψη – Summary

Οι μικροβιακές μολύνσεις των καλλυντικών αποτελούν σοβαρό πρόβλημα που ενέχει κινδύνους για την Δημόσια Υγεία. Στην εργασία αυτή γίνεται αναφορά στα μικρόβια, βακτήρια και μύκητες, που μολύνουν τα καλλυντικά καθώς και τις πιθανές πηγές μολύνσεως, στα συντηρητικά που προστίθενται για αποφυγή αναπτύξεως των μικροοργανισμών, στις επιθυμητές ιδιότητες των συντηρητικών, στους παράγοντες που επηρεάζουν τη δραστικότητα των συντηρητικών και στα συντηρητικά που σήμερα χρησιμοποιούνται. Τέλος, αναφέρονται μερικά προφυλακτικά μέτρα αποφυγής της μικροβιακής μόλυνσης των καλλυντικών, η οποία είναι πρόβλημα που πρέπει να συνειδητοποιηθεί τόσο από το πλατύ κοινό που τυφλά εμπιστεύεται τα πάσης φύσεως σκευάσματα, όσο και από την Πολιτεία, που πρέπει να ευαισθητοποιηθεί στην ανάγκη συστηματικών μικροβιακών ελέγχων των καλλυντικών.

Microbial contamination of cosmetics represents a serious problem which entails dangers for Public Health. In this paper, reference is made to microbes, bacteria and fungi, which contaminate cosmetics and the probable sources of contamina­tion. Reference is also made to the conservative added to avoid microbial growth, to the required characteristics of the conservatives, to the factors that affect their activity and to the conservatives currently used. Lastly, some precautionary meas­ures to avoid microbial contamination are men­tioned. Microbial contamination of cosmetics is a problem which must be realized by the public which blindly trusts the various preparations, and by the Authorities, which should be sensitized to the need of systematic microbial control of the cosmetics.
