Abstract
Background: Beyond their erosive potential, chronic use of pediatric supplement syrups can affect the color stability of composite restorative materials. Aim: The aim of this in vitro study was to investigate the impact of pediatric supplements on the color stability of two types of composite restorative materials. Methodology: Two types of composite materials were used in this study: microhybrid and nanohybrid. A total of 64 disc-shaped samples (n=32 per material, n=8 per subgroup) were made for testing. The samples were subdivided into four groups and kept in pediatric supplements (propolis, B12, and iron) and distilled water (control group). The color measurements were performed at baseline, 1 day, and 7 days by using the dental spectrophotometer. Data of color change were analyzed by using ANOVA and Tukey post-hoc tests (p<0.05). Results: In the microhybrid group, the highest color change was caused by the B12 solution, whereas in the nanohybrid group, the highest color change was observed with the iron group. The nanohybrid composite is more resistant to staining in comparison with the microhybrid composite. Conclusion: Among the pediatric supplements, vitamin B12 caused the most pronounced staining in the microhybrid group, while iron showed the highest color change in nanohybrid group at most time intervals. Furthermore, the nanohybrid composite showed greater resistance to discoloration than the microhybrid composite.
