Abstract
Background: Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as a transformative tool in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS), potentially enhancing diagnostic accuracy, surgical planning, and clinical decision-making. Aim: This study aims to comprehensively review current AI applications in OMS, focusing on diagnostic imaging, surgical simulation, dental implantology, and impacted tooth management. Methodology: A narrative literature review was conducted using the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, encompassing articles published between 2015 and 2024. The search strategy utilized the keywords “Artificial Intelligence”, “Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery”, and “Deep Learning”, with findings analyzed through a qualitative synthesis of the retrieved literature. Results: Based on this qualitative evaluation, AI applications demonstrated high accuracy in imaging interpretation, surgical simulation, and predictive modeling within experimental and retrospective datasets, suggesting a strong potential to support clinical workflows. Conclusion: AI represents a promising supplementary asset to the field of OMS, though its true impact on real-world clinical outcomes requires further standardized validation, prospective study, and careful consideration of ethical and technical challenges.

Keywords: artificial intelligence, maxillofacial surgery, deep learning, imaging, surgical planning
